Program Coordinator

The Garry Oak Ecosystems Recovery Team (GOERT) is dedicated to the conservation and restoration of one of Canada's most imperiled ecosystems. Over the last seven years GOERT has successfully developed a diverse, yet highly integrated ecosystem and species at risk recovery program.

A tremendous opportunity awaits an energetic, motivated conservationist with proven skills in strategic planning and program administration in a consensus-based, team-oriented working environment. Based in beautiful Victoria, reporting to the GOERT Chair and Steering Committee, the Program Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of the Garry Oak Ecosystems Recovery Team program with the assistance of several dedicated personnel. GOERT also has about 80 partners involved on various GOERT boards and subcommittees.

The Program Coordinator is responsible for managing the GOERT office, budgets, personnel and other aspects of the GOERT program. The Program Coordinator is responsible to the GOERT Chair and Steering Committee and serves as a key member of the recovery team. The key responsibilities of the Program Coordinator include the following:

  • Provide advice to the Chair and Steering Committee and ensure work of our Secretariat and team members is conducted in accordance with the GOERT Recovery Strategy.

  • Encourage others to conduct Garry oak ecosystem-related work in accordance with the Recovery Strategy.

  • Coordinate and track progress of the recovery program.

  • Ensure GOERT products are of high quality, and all written material is technically correct and consistent with the recovery strategy.

  • Manage the GOERT office.

  • Supervise GOERT personnel, oversee GOERT finances, and provide project and contract management.

  • Develop funding proposals.

  • Prepare and deliver funding reports, annual reports, public presentations, committee reports and other communication media.

  • Support the Chair and recovery team and foster the work of the GOERT subcommittees.

  • Foster other strategic partnerships.

  • Participate in meetings of the recovery team and its subcommittees.

  • Develop and support communication and information-sharing among those involved in conservation of Garry oak ecosystems.

  • Review proposals and other written material from partners and government.

  • Respond to requests from the public, partners and media.

Anticipated start date is September 15, 2007 and this work is ongoing. Remuneration for this contract is $4920/month (GOERT is in the process of becoming an independent society and intends to hire staff in the near future. Until such time GOERT will continue to contract out this and other services).
