Scouts Canada's Climate Change Program receives Honourable Mention

 

Partners Scouts Canada, Alcan Inc. and Nexen Inc. receive Honourable Mention in Imagine Canada's Partnership Awards

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Nov. 9, 2005) - Scouts Canada and the Delphi Group, Nexen Inc. and Alcan Inc., partners in combating climate change, have received an Honourable Mention - Partnership Award from Imagine Canada for their innovative work in launching the Climate Change Education and

Action Program (CCEAP).

The official awards ceremony took place in Toronto on Tuesday, November 8, where awards were presented in front of an audience of about 100 guests from both the corporate and non-profit worlds.

Established in 1996, the Community Partnership Awards recognize and celebrate outstanding partnerships between business and nonprofit organizations that are finding new and innovative ways to strengthen and support Canadian communities.

Imagine Canada's jury of Canadian business leaders looks for exemplary partnerships that demonstrate:

· Creative, sustainable solutions that are meeting community needs;

· Active involvement of both partners in the design and implementation of the project or program;

· A wide spectrum of resources brought by both partners; and

· A measurable benefit to the community.

The CCEAP is a program designed to increase both awareness and youth involvement in combating the world-wide problem of global warming. It includes climate change awareness activities for youth and parents, ideas on how to reduce household greenhouse gas emissions and instructions on how to conduct an energy audit. To complement its current environmental programming, Scouts Canada leaders are encouraged to work with youth on the activities during their regular weekly section meetings.

The three sponsors of the Climate Change Education and Action Program (CCEAP) have been integral to its success. Alcan Inc. and Nexen Inc. have both contributed their time and financial support to make this a success. The Government of Canada's Climate Change Action Fund also played a key role in supporting and encouraging the CCEAP.
