OTTAWA, Nov. 21 /CNW/ - The University of Ottawa announced today that a new bursary will be available to students who are enrolled in programs with an environmental focus. The TD Green Bursary has been established with a $500,000 donation from TD Bank Financial Group (TDBFG). The bursary, open to any University of Ottawa student focusing his or her studies on an aspect of the environment, will provide a minimum of $1,000 and a maximum of 50 per cent of the student's tuition. The number of bursaries will vary depending on the income generated on the endowment.
"TD is proud to assist deserving students in reaching their educational goals and this bursary not only provides aid to students but will also contribute to the well-being of our environment," said Ron McInnis, Senior Vice-President, Ontario North and East Region, TD Canada Trust.
The University of Ottawa offers a wide variety of programs from which eligible students could apply, from environmental studies to ecotoxicology to engineering and environmental law.
"This bursary is not just about environmental commitment today - it's about a vision for environmental progress well into the future," said President Gilles Patry, whose own area of expertise is in waste-water treatment.
The first recipient or recipients will receive their TD Green Bursary in September 2007.
TD Bank Financial Group's Community Relations program supports education and literacy, children's health and the environment, with a focus on children and youth. TD's commitment to the environment includes sponsorship of the TD Friends of the Environment Foundation and the TD Canada Trust Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup.
